How the Precious Metal Value works
The Precious Metal Value calculator tells you what your gold or silver is worth right now, based on live spot prices, its weight, and its purity.
Choose the metal, enter its weight in grams, ounces, kilograms, tola or pennyweight, and select the purity (for example 24k, 22k or 18k gold, or sterling silver). We convert everything to grams of pure metal.
We fetch the live spot price per troy ounce, convert it to a per-gram price, then multiply by the pure-metal content of your item to give its melt value.
Purity matters a lot: 18k gold is only 75% gold, so a 10 g 18k ring contains 7.5 g of actual gold. The calculator handles this automatically.
Spot value is the raw metal value. When you buy or sell, dealers add a premium or spread, so real-world prices differ from the melt value shown here.
Pro tips
- Always match the purity to your item's hallmark (24k, 22k, 18k…) for an accurate value.
- Spot value is the floor — expect to pay a premium buying and receive slightly less selling.
- Switch units to tola or pennyweight if that's how your item is measured.
